China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism hopes mainland residents can soon travel to Taiwan, urging smooth cross-strait exchanges. Fujian residents have begun traveling to Matsu and Kinmen, with a tourism peak expected during China’s National Day holiday.

DGPA announced that the Ministry of Interior will evaluate making Labor Day a national holiday. The 2025 government calendar omits Labor Day, drawing legislative attention.

Premier Chen Chien-Jen addresses inquiries on the possibility of a unified Labor Day holiday on May 1 in Taiwan, pending a meeting with the Ministry of the Interior. Legislation amendments may be considered if a decision is reached before May 20, as discussed in response to concerns raised by KMT legislator Wang Hung-wei and the National Federation of Teachers Unions.

Taiwan is preparing for its national elections on January 13, which has been declared a ＂holiday＂ under the Labor Standards Act. Employers are required to give workers with voting rights a day off and maintain their regular pay. If employers insist on having employees work on election day, they must provide double pay for attendance hours and cannot prevent workers from voting. The elections will determine the 16th President and Vice President of Taiwan, as well as the 11th Legislative Yuan. No additional leave is granted if the voting day falls on a worker’s regular day off. Violations of these regulations may result in fines ranging from NT$20,000 to NT$1 million, in addition to wage compensation. Workers whose rights are compromised can file complaints with the local labor administrative authority.

To prevent overcrowding during the upcoming Double Tenth national holiday, Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) and Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) will be adding extra services.

Foxconn founder Terry Gou expresses support for former President Ma Ying-jeou’s decision to boycott the national day celebration in Taiwan. Gou criticizes President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te for their views on national identity, particularly Tsai’s renaming of the holiday to ＂Taiwan National Day.＂

The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) issued an apology for the overcrowding experienced at its Taichung station on Sunday, with some passengers waiting for three hours without boarding. In preparation for the upcoming National Day holiday, the THSR promised to improve passenger guidance, divert passengers accordingly, and enhance crowd control measures.

From Oct. 6 to Oct. 11, Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) will provide additional transport services to cater to the four-day Double Ten holiday need. Ticket sales commenced at midnight on Sept 8.
